Style Icon: Olivia Palermo

As a past reality star on The City alongside Lauren Conrad, a model, and a fashion blogger herself Olivia Palermo is one of my all-time favorite style icons. A popular street-style celebrity, Palermo always looks perfectly put together from head, showcasing her beyond stylish sunglass collection, to toe, where there are usually a pair of heels or boots waiting to be photographed. Olivia Palermo dresses with such a high degree of class that even if she's just out grabbing coffee or walking her dog through the city, she'll soon be featured in a magazine's style section for her incredible everyday fashion sense. Palermo was recently married and instead of wearing a traditional dress, she wore a white sweater-shorts combo complete with a tule skirt. If anyone else was to even think about attempting this on their wedding day they would never be able to pull it off as well as Olivia did. I mean, she wore shorts and still managed to look as elegant as she would have if she wore Vera Wang! I look forward to seeing what Olivia Palermo wears in the future as well as what she features on her own blog because she is no doubt one of the biggest inspirations to my own fashion sense.

Denim Days of Summer

During the dog days of summer, nothing is better than finding denim alternatives to wear rather than facing the heat in your favorite pair of jeans. For these looks I decided to pair chambray with a few printed and textured items to create a look perfect for the July heat. Thank you to my friends Emily & Lauren for modeling!

Paris Fashion Week: Giambattista Valli Fall 2014

Giambattista Valli caught my attention today as I was scrolling through photos from Paris fashion week, which is currently going on and showcasing fall 2014 collections, and I have fallen instantly in love with his work. While looking through his fall couture collection, I felt as though I had been transported to the French Riviera at a time when old Hollywood still reigned and I couldn't help but picture someone like Grace Kelly wearing these clothes while lounging around on a terrace overlooking the sea in Monte Carlo.

The clothes in this collection mix a certain look of pajamas with detailed florals, embroidery, and tulle that give the woman wearing the couture an air of glamour without even trying. She simply woke up, grabbed a scarf  to tie around her undone hair and a pair of sunglasses, and went outside to enjoy the morning air while looking out onto the waters of the Mediterranean. The Alhambra gardens also played an important role in inspiring Valli by incorporating the spanish florals into almost everything in the collection. The florals are also the only thing bringing pops of color into the neutral colored clothing which mainly focuses on variations of black and white. The gigantic ombre tulle dresses that served as the finale of the show were by far my favorites and definitely something I could see on red carpets in the future. I think it's safe to say I've found a new favorite designer.

Style Icon: Emma Watson

Ever since her early days as Hermione Granger, I've been a loyal Emma Watson fan and as she has matured, so has her style. Emma Watson is one of the few celebrities who's style I have consistently loved. I honestly can't think of a time I didn't like what she was wearing. Emma dresses with a kind of class that stays true to her proper English roots, without being afraid to take risks and dress with a little edge. One of my favorite risks she has taken was at the Golden Globes earlier this year when she wore a short-sleeved full-length coral dress that looked ordinary from the front, but when she turned around revealed a nearly backless dress and a pair of black tailored pants she was wearing underneath. Certainly something I don't think anyone has seen on the red carpet before. No matter where Emma is, she always looks pulled together. Even if she's just wearing a sweater + scarf combo with a pair of sunglasses out running errands, she looks stylish as hell. Not to mention she's also the face of Burberry, so that could be another factor of why her street-style is always so on point. Another one of my favorite things about Emma Watson's style? She pairs neutral colored clothing with a pop of color by wearing red lipstick, which is exactly how I wish I could dress every single day during the fall. My all-time favorite fashion moment of Emma Watson was when she wore the Burberry (of course) gold mini dress (top right photo below) to the Burberry Spring/Summer 2010 show. Everything about this dress from the gold encrusted fabric to the nearly invisible front zipper is incredible. No matter what Emma Watson continues to wear in the future, I already know I'll approve. I mean, I'm already envious of her entire closet.

Oscars 2014 Red Carpet: My "Best Dressed" Picks

After watching the entirety of the 2014 Oscars and witnessing every spectacular gown, I've concluded which dresses were the best in my eyes...

From the moment I saw Emma Watson walk onto the red carpet in this Vera Wang dress, I was in love.  While this dress might not be the flashiest of this year's Oscars, it's my personal favorite. I don't know if it's the high neckline or the black & metallic color scheme but this is my dream dress. Not that I plan on going to an award show anytime soon, but I would die if I was able to wear this to prom. And speaking of prom, I'm feeling pretty good about my choice of going with a blush & silver metallic dress considering that seemed to be quite the trend in this year's gowns. I love everything about this dress especially it's slightly sporty feel, and the added touch of red lipstick. Emma Watson really can't go wrong.

This girl is the queen of every red carpet she walks onto. Lupita Nyong'o dazzled yet again in a pale blue Prada dress, or as I learned from Ryan Seacrest duck-egg blue to be exact. It was clear she was one of, if not the best, best dressed in attendance, and for good reason. She looked utterly amazing in this dress and the fairytale-like look fit well with her first Oscar win. I think it's safe to say the world has found it's next style icon.

Cate Blanchett wore a Armani Prive' dress, but more importantly those gorgeous earrings that completely distracted me during her acceptance speech are from the jewelry brand Chopard. She, like many of her fellow attendees, went with a neutral colored dress with lots of detail & sparkle. Some might not be a fan of the nude dress & pale skin combo that was popular during this award season, but I absolutely loved Cate's dress. It's almost garden-like and reminds me a little of past Valentino. Those earrings though, loved them.

Going along with the metallic trend, Jennifer Garner wore a Oscar de la Renta flapper-like gown. With a whole lot of shimmer and shimmy when she walked, this dress gave the biggest nod to old Hollywood glamour. I also appreciate the fact she didn't over-accessorize considering the dress was like a piece of jewelry itself. Overall, loved it.

Last but not least, Anne Hathaway stunned the red carpet with her blinged-out Gucci dress. What I really love about this dress is the high-neck cut, which I think looks amazing on Anne. This dress suited her so well and was both simple yet completely glamourous at the same time. Overall, this look was very appropriate for an Oscars red carpet.

Out With The Old: Cleaning Out Your Closet

Just as clothing is a reflection of personal style, having a clean and organized closet says a lot about a person. Every spring, it's important to do a little cleaning and find out what exactly is worth keeping and what you need to get rid of and donate.

As Lauren Conrad's advice taught me, go through your closet and take the items that you either never wear or are not sure if you want to get rid of and store them for roughly six months. After leaving them in storage for that long, go through the clothes again and re-evalute what you want to keep. You may have realized that striped sweater isn't really doing anything but taking up valuable space. You might also rediscover something you forgot you owned and re-fall in love.

Try on every piece of clothing in your closet, and when I say everything, I mean it. Actually trying on your clothes works a lot better than just looking at them on a hanger when it comes to trying to decide what you want to keep. This also allows you to go shopping in your own closet. You never know what great outfits have been hiding in there all along. When you're trying on your clothes feel free to mix and match to create new outfits. Don't be afraid to play dress up, like Kate Spade said, dress up starts at age five and never ends!

When putting your clothes back into your closet try to come up with an organization system. Try and keep skirts next to skirts and sweaters next to sweaters. It will keep your closet from getting too jumbled, which can also lead to some pieces getting lost among the sea of fabrics.

Is that poncho really going to come back in style? And if so, anytime soon? Waiting for a style to come back is no reason to be hoarding clothes your not planning on wearing anytime soon. So that means its time to say adios to those flared jeans hiding in the back of your closet.

When it comes to the pile of clothes you now are looking to get rid of, consider what you're going to do with them. If you have brand name clothing consider selling them to second hand stores or visiting websites like Twice to make a little extra cash for your old clothing. Anything else can be given away as a donation.

Lastly, don't wait an eternity to clean out your closet again!
