Coffee Date: Messenger Coffee Co.

As I write this post, it's a chilly -4 outside and I'm curled up under as many covers as possible trying to avoid the outdoors. After a month back home in Kansas City for winter break, I'm now back in Columbia for my last semester ever as an undergraduate. While home, my friend Lauren and I hit up as many new KC coffee shops as we could. One of our favorite was a recently opened shop called Messenger Coffee Co. nestled right in the middle of downtown KC. Messenger boasts 3 different floors as well as a rooftop patio that visitors can explore, meaning you never have to fear not finding a spot. A fan of all things chocolate, I went with a mocha and a chocolate hazelnut croissant. I can't wait to be home again for a weekend so I can go back to Messenger to work on homework, the environment is amazing for getting things done. Filled with modern aesthetics and freshly made sweets, Messenger is a new hometown favorite of mine.

Hello 2018

After a life changing year of travel, career experience and personal growth, 2017 will be hard to beat. 2017 pushed me out of my comfort zone and grew me into a more independent and ambitious young woman. With the stroke of the clock and a brand new year, like many others I am beginning to reflect on what is to come. For me, like many other college seniors, it will be a big year filled with life changes and many unknowns. I will be graduating this May from college and have my sites set on relocating to Boston to begin my post-grad career. As for my goals and resolutions, a successful first step into adulthood is my main focus of the year. I'm excited for the first day I wake up in a new city and get to begin exploring my new chapter in life.

Besides a successful transition from college to the real world, I'm keen to keep working towards personal wellness in 2018. In the latter part of last year, I began focusing more on exercise and decided to take up running, going from dying at the half mile mark to a 5k in only two months. While I'm not yet ambitious enough to even think about working towards a half marathon, I'd like to keep up the progress and tack on a few more miles by the end of 2018.

And finally, this little blog of mine is something I would like to continuing building in the year to come. Even looking back to this time last year, I'm so happy with how this blog has evolved. I feel I am finally finding my groove and already have so many content ideas floating around my head or scribbled down in notebooks. I'm excited to see how it changes, transitioning from college life to the post-grad world.

I hope everyone enjoys the feeling of a fresh start this January, even if it's a bit cold.

Glitz & Gold for New Year's Eve

New Year's Eve is hands down the best night of the year. Being extra with glitter is not only accepted, but expected and champagne flows at whatever party you go. The second Christmas is over, you suddenly see clothing racks lined with shimmery dresses and party shoes, waiting to be worn out on NYE. With a variety of trends to choose from this year, like velvet and sherpa jackets, I went with a traditional LBD with added celestial flair from Lulu's. To keep warm in the single degree Kansas City weather, I paired the dress with a metallic jacket and thigh high boots. Honestly how great is that trend? Your pale winter legs not only look good, but stay warm at the same time! Excited to be spending my NYE this weekend with hometown friends, and can't wait to see what 2018 brings!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas from me and mine to you and yours! I'm currently enjoying my last winter break at home in Kansas City before returning back to school for my final semester as an undergrad. With a bit of unexpected snow and all my high school friends back in town, I'm having very happy holidays! Mason and I donned our Christmas best and grabbed the wreath off our building's front door so we could snap a Christmas card to share on social media this year. A bit of a funny concept, but a lot easier than printing real ones! This skirt, originally from J.Crew is hands down one of the best things I've ever thrifted. You can find a similar one here. Plaid reminds me so much of Christmas wrapping paper, especially when it's red and green like this skirt! And as for the bean boots, it's a toss up who bought them first, but hands down my favorite boots for snowy weather. I hope you all enjoy a very Merry Christmas surrounded by loved ones and lots of hot chocolate! See you in the new year!

Drugstore Dupe: GLAMGLOW SUPERMUD Clearing Treatment

Sporting the slogan "world's most powerful facial" directly on the jar, Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay might just live up to its name.

I originally heard about this mask after reading an article from Refinery29 about Riverdale star Lili Reinhart's skincare routine. The star, who has discussed her battles with cystic acne, swears by the $8 mask for acne-prone skin, so I decided to put Amazon Prime to use and give it a go. The results? I'M SHOCKED. This product LITERALLY dried up my breakouts overnight. Never have I used a mask for troubled skin that actually worked this effectively or quickly. The directions say to mix the bentonite clay with water, or apple cider vinegar, and apply evenly to the desired areas. One word of warning, this stuff can get messy. The mixture, as one would assume, turns muddy in texture and is messy to wash off of surfaces as well as your skin. But stay with me here, it's worth it. After 5-10 minutes, the mask will feel dried and even a bit warm on your face. I like to use it 1-2 times a week depending on how my skin is looking at the time. Another added bonus, the one pound jar of powder will last years. Eight dollars well spent in my opinion.

In the past, I have been a GLAMGLOW SUPERMUD clearing treatment user, enjoying the luxurious feel of the brand's K17-Clay and Activated-X Charcoal infused mask (you can even read my review here) but not so much the price. The Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay is the closest I have gotten to a drugstore dupe for GLAMGLOW and honestly, I saw better results when it came to clearing up my face.

If you're looking for an effective mask for acne-prone skin, I highly recommend you give this dupe a try!

Hello Pumpkin!

What would fall be without a few pumpkins? To our luck, my friends and I live only a short drive from a pumpkin patch and farm that has everything from apples to goats and a colorful variety of gourds. As an autumn enthusiast, I thrive during the months of October and November. After a ten month wait, the world turns shades of orange and yellow, sweaters make their way to the front of the closet, and everything tastes of pumpkin. As much as I love a good sundress, fall clothing will always be my favorite. Blanket scarves, sweaters, and vests such as my favorite J.Crew one pictured above are my daily uniform during the autumn season. As fall winds down and winter quickly approaches, I say goodbye to pumpkin pie and hello to peppermint mochas. Take a drive down an autumnal leaved road, have a pumpkin spice latte in your hand and enjoy the ride.

Cheetah Girl

Rewinding to this past Halloween, my friend and I hit the town as "party animals" complete with drawn on whiskers and animal ears. A bit of a last minute costume, I found myself in Target on the eve of a party and discovered this cheetah print coat, which retails for only $40. After finding the coat and a pair of lace cat ears, also from Target, the rest of my costume fell into place with black clothing found in my closet. A touch of red lipstick and gold eyeshadow from my Tarte Rainforest of the Sea palette volume III and I was out the door. I just recently acquired this eyeshadow palette and it is the most pigmented eyeshadow I have ever used! No primer needed, these shadows show up so well on camera and in person. As a senior in college and past the days of wearing sleeveless shirts and bare legs in 30 degree weather for the sake of Halloween, my friend and I joked that we can tell we are getting old when we start incorporating coats into our costumes for the sake of staying warm. If you're in need of some cheetah print in your wardrobe this fall, I highly recommend this affordable and warm coat. Target does it again!
